“Mom, leave me alone!”
“Mom, I know what I’m doing. Just go!”
“Mom, you have already said that billions of times!”
Do these sound familiar? Like…at all?
Maybe you don’t say it out loud, but in your mind you are screaming them at the top of your lungs. Kind of like me…a few days ago…
I did not say none of the above examples. Let a lightning struck me if I ever say that to my Mother. But well, let me start from the beginning:
My Dad was delayed at work, so my Mom and two little sisters sat to eat supper. We were talking about something, and then the conversation turned to the days when my older brother was a baby. And my Mom said something like this: “One day this lady gave me this advice, and now I’m telling you as well…”
Long story short, the advice only applied if I was married and with a baby. And I was like, “Seriously, Mom? None of this applies to me. Best to save it for when I am married.”
But then I got to think.
Our parents stand in the place of God to us, right?
Yeah, that’s right.
What does God do in regards counsel and events?
Hmmm…well, He lets us know before hand. Even hundreds of years in advance!
So yeah, I believe it is wise to listen even if we think it does not apply to us now. One day it will, and by then it will be nice and engraved in our minds.
“My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother.” Proverbs 1:8
“The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise.” Proverbs 12:15
Be the daughter you would like to have one day: a God-fearing daughter that you will not be ashamed to present before God. A daughter that you will be able to take by the hand, kneel before the Lord and say, “Behold, I and the daughter whom you have given me.”
